Kreativität ist in der grafischen Industrie nie Mangelware, und manchmal kann sie einen in seinen Bahnen stoppen. So erging es mir, als ich zügig am Letter art/Type & Tech-Stand vorbeischlenderte.
Vor dreißig Jahren begann der deutsche Künstler Henrich Weusthoff mit dem Sammeln alter Holz- und Metallschriften sowie Holzschnitten und Stichen, die im Druck verwendet wurden. Teile seiner Sammlung sollen über zweihundert Jahre alt sein und wurden in Geschäften in England, Irland und Schottland gesammelt.
Inspiriert von den Formen und Texturen seiner Sammlung begann er, daraus faszinierende Kunstwerke zu schaffen. Es gibt keine einfache Möglichkeit, die Werke zu beschreiben; man muss sie einfach sehen. Es gibt sie in allen Formen und Größen und sie sind aus edlen Hölzern und Metallen gefertigt. Jede Kreation ist ein Unikat. Weusthoff fertigt auf Wunsch auch Sonderanfertigungen. Creativity in the graphic arts industry is never in short supply and sometimes it can stop you in your tracks. That’s what happened to me as I was strolling briskly past the Letternart / Type and Tech stand.
Thirty years ago German artist Henrich Weusthoff began collecting antique wood and metal typefaces as well as dingbats, woodcuts, and engravings used in printing. Parts of his collection are said to be over two hundred years old and were collected from shops in England, Ireland, and Scotland.
Inspired by the shapes and textures of his collection he began creating fascinating pieces of art from them. There is no simple way to describe them; you simply have to view them. They come in all shapes and sizes and are made from rich woods and metals. Each creation is the only one of its kind. Weusthoff also does custom pieces on request.
